Son of Walter Matthew and Ellen Carter; husband of Thora Cecilia Carter of Bournemouth, Hampshire, England. Thora re-married and was known as Thora Cecilia McLaughlin of Victoria, Canada
Plane was Lancaster 111 ND557 which exploded on impact near Durnbach, Germany. It was sir operations targeting Stuttgart, Germany. Eyewitnesses state that he plane was well alight before hitting the ground and causing a loud explosion. The impact left a crater approximately 100 feet and 25 feet deep suggesting that it was still loaded with bombs
