Flight Lieutenant John Austral Casey 403555 of Royal Air Force Transport Command was killed when Avro York MW126 crashed near Le Rivier D'Allemont in France while enroute to Ceylon

The aircraft was detailed to transport Sir Trafford Air Chief Marshall Leigh-Mallory RAF to become the Air Commander-in-Chief at South East Asia Command; also killed was his wife Lady Leigh-Mallory
