John (Jack) Corrie Chenu

He was born in Corowa NSW on 13 June 1921 and was a pupil at Scotch College, Melbourne for four years. He enlisted in Melbourne on 22 May 1942 in the RAAF.

At 1707 hrs Albemarle P 1593, on a glider-retrieval flight from Hampstead Norris to Kinloss, when flying low in bad weather was seen to spin in and burst into flames at Newton-of-Bruxie. Pilot Fg Offr Fairbairn and 9 others killed. (included Flight Sergeant John Chenu)
He was buried Longside Cemetery, Aberdeenshire. He was the air gunner in the group of nine that were on board.

John Corrie CHENU was born in Corowa, New South Wales on 13th June 1921

His parents were Edward William CHENU & Violet Helen CORRIE who married in Crossmichael, Kincardineshire, Scotland on 3rd December, 1915

He first enlisted in the Army (SN V158719) on 25th August, 1941 with the Melbourne University Rifles and was discharged on 22nd May, 1942 - on the same day he enlisted with the RAAF (SN 418347)

John died in the crash of an Albermarle bomber aircraft which spun out of control in Aberdeen, Scotland on 10th July, 1944 - at the time he was with the Operational & Refresher Training Unit of the RAF

He is buried in the Longside Cemetery in Aberdeen, Scotland and his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial

His father Edward William CHENU (SN1920) served as a Lieutenant during WW1 and returned to Australia in 1919

His  uncle Frank Atheron CHENU (SN 3608) served during WW1 & returned to Australia in 1919
