The details provided are taken from the book "1000 Men at War" the history of the 2nd/16th Infantry Battalion, published 1959, refer to page 141. Alfred was born 24th April 1922, and prior to the war he was a garage hand of North Perth WA. He served in the 2nd/16th Inf Bn with the rank of Private. Unfortunately, he was Killed In Action 30th Aug 1942. Rest In Peace. Lest We Forget.

Alfred was the youngest and only surviving child of Alfred Melbourne Clare (b1890 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Jane Annie Willie (b1895 in Bunbury WA). Alfred Snr (a Linotype Printer) and Jane (a Dressmaker) married in Fremantle WA in 1919 when Alfred Snr returned from WWI. They settled in Perth WA where Alfred Snr was a Linotype Printer.

Alfred was a Garage Hand in Perth WA when he enlisted in the Australian Army in June 1941. He served as a Private (Service No:WX14508) with2/14 Infantry Battalion in the Middle East and New Guinea. Alfred was reported as MiA on 5 October 1942 and declared KiA on 10 November 1942.
