Leading Aircraftman Maxwell John Clarke 427869 was killed when Oxford AS674 from 36 SFTS RCAF Penhold crashed seven miles from Red Deer, Alberta, Canada when the aircraft hit high tension wires during bad visibility while on a cross-country flight

Also killed was Flying Officer Ronald Edward Lay 128576 RAF (Instructor Pilot)
