He married Florence Sophia D'EMDEN on 27th March, 1928 in Bellerive, Tasmania

Rex died in the Bay of Bengal on 9th April, 1942 whilst on board the ship HMS Hermes - no known grave

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial & the Plymouth Naval Memorial
