Son of John Lionel Stanley and Myrtle Emily Collins, of Clermont, Queensland, Australia.
Flying Officer Edward C. J. Collins, who was accidentally killed in an air crash in Canada on August 22 whilst engaged in night search-light and navigation exercises. He was 24 years of age and was the son of Mrs H. Wheeler, of Clermont.
Born at Springsure, he was educated at the Springsure State School and obtained a scholarship. After leaving school he worked in the office of his father, the late Mr J. L. Collins, a commission agent, and was well known in Springsure and Rockhampton in connexion with the business. He enlisted in the RAAF in November, 1941, and was trained at Sandgate and Narromine. He left Australia for Canada in August, 1942, and received his commission as pilot officer and later attained the rank of Flying Officer.
