Mother Receives Scroll From King

Mrs. Les Colwell, of 76 Cobra St Dubbo has received a Scroll of Honor from His Majesty the King.

The Scroll is headed with the Royal Crest and is worded:

'This Scroll commemorates Aircraftsman Class II, C. A Colwell, Royal Australian Air Force.

Held in honor is one who served King and Country in the World War of' 1939-1945, and gave his life to save mankind from tyranny.

May his sacrifice help to bring the peace and freedom for which he died.

The enclosed scroll is sent by command of the King.

Claude Arthur COLWELL was born in Coonamble, NSW on 8th December, 1922 - he enlisted with the RAAF under the name of his elder brother Raymond Leslie COLWELL

His parents were Leslie Sherringham COLWELL & Evelyn Violet COLLESS who married in Walgett, NSW on 23rd June, 1920

He enlisted with the RAAF on 19th July, 1941 and died from broncho pneumonia in the Flinders Naval Base Hospital in Victoria on 18th September 1942 and is buried in the Springvale Cemetery

His Father Leslie Sherringham COLWELL (SN 59299) served during WW1 in the Australian Army and was discharged in 1918
