Collapse at Hobart
Sq-Leader A.C. Combes, Divisional Meteorologist for Tasmania, died at Hobart yesterday. He collapsed outside Anglesea Barracks at 6.15 pm, and was dead on admittance to the Royal Hobart Hospital.
Mr. Combes succeeded Mr J.C. Foley nearly seven years ago as Government Meteorologist . He was educated at the Model State School and the Friend's School. He joined the Hobart Weather Bureau as clerk in 1910. He was transferred to the Central Bureau, Melbourne, in June 1937, and attended a special course of aviation meteorology.
Mr. Combes also studied at the Melbourne University under the German meteorologist, Dr. Loewe. After passing examinations, he was appointed.
He was the second son of the late Herbert and Edith Combes, of Longley, meteorologist at Cambridge aerodrome, and is survived by his wife.
