THE LATE MILTON CONKEY
Alderman and Mrs. Lloyd Conkey received many messages of sympathy on the loss of their elder son, P/O Milton Hubert Conkey, who, according to the official, wire, was killed. in an air, accident. Later it was released for publication that two occupants were killed when a transport aircraft of the R.A.A.F. crashed at a South Australian landing ground on Thursday — Pilot-Officer Milton Hubert Conkey, of Cootamundra, N.S.W.. and L.A.C. Bernard James Hovey, 29, married, of Moriac Vic. His brother, Major Harold Conkey, who, with Lieut. Reg. Holmes, also of Cootamundra, led the Australians into Benghazi, aNd also saw much service overseas, and is now in charge of a training camp in Victoria, got three weeks' leave, attended Milton's funeral in south Australia, and then joined his parents in Melbourne to accompany them to Tasmania for a holiday, mainly for the benefit of Ald. Conkey, who had been much overdue for a rest, apart from the shock of the death of his son. The widow of the deceased, on returning to Cootamundra, was accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Deane. formerly of Cootamundra. Among those to send sympathy was the Rev. J. H. Sorrell, who is at present in Queensland, and who has ever a tender spot for his old Cootamundra
friends. Milton had taken a keen interest in his church. He was a member of the choir, and was on the plan as a lay preacher. But for the war Milton seemed destined no doubt to in due course take over the manifold responsibilities as manager of the factory and the production of so many side lines distributed over a big area around Cootamundra. It was rather unique in its way, but all the same, illustrated how Alderman Conkey is esteemed in the towns around, when the Murrumburrah Council, at its last meeting, passed a motion of condolence with him and Mrs. Conkey and the other members of the sorrowing family.
