Alan Lintern CROWTHER enlisted on 29 July 1940 initially seeing service in Australia. In December 1941 he was sent to Ambon with the 2/11th Field Company as part of ‘Gull Force’ to defend the strategic island's harbour and air strip. It is believed that L/Cpl Crowther was killed in action whilst defending the airstrip at Laha on 31 January 1942.
