Harry Foch Curtis - HMAS Yarra

Harry Foch Curtis was known as “Fochie”.
He was born 19th November 1918 at 80 Type Street, Richmond.
His mother Maud May (nee Ratcliff), was born in Broomfield,. Victoria
His father was Charles Ernest Curtis a “leather dresser” and had been born in Carlton, Victoria.
Fochie who was 5’7-1/2” inches tall with fair hair, blue eyes and a fresh complexion.
He moved with his mother and 7 siblings to 39 Walter Street, Footscray and he was a keen cricketer.
He worked for Hardy Fibrolite.
Fochie enlisted at Williamstown with the Navy.
He reported for duty on the 26 September 1940 as an Ordinary Seaman.
He spent 3 months at HMAS Cerberus and a further 2 months at HMAS Lonsdale.
He boarded HMAS Yarra on 2 November 1941.
He had qualified for “gunnery”
HMAS Yarra was bombed and sunk on 4th March 1942.
