Charles was born as Charles George DEGENHARDT on 7th October, 1916 in Murtoa, Victoria - he was also known as Charles Gordon in his war records
His parents were Herbert Charles DEGENHARDT & Elizabeth Frances WAIT
He served in the Air Cadets in the RAAF from 5th February, 1940 to 25th August, 1940 before enlisting in the RAAF in Parafield, South Australia on 5th February, 1940.
He was involved in the Murtoa Boy Scouts & the Murtoa Fire Brigade before moving to Geelong
Charles died of wounds in air operations in the Western Desert and was first buried in the Coldstream Guards Cemetery and reburied on 29th January, 1944 in the Halfaya Sollum War Cemetery
