Beresford George Douglas Dillon (known as Barry) was born 24 November 1923 in Brisbane, Queensland to George Lionel Dillon and Violet Bertha nee Heilbronn. He was the eldest of four children. His father was a school teacher who also served in the Australian Army in WW2.
Beresford (Barry) Dillon enlisted 25 May 1942. He embarked Melbourne 6 March 1943 and disembarked 17 April 1943 in London
Warrant Officer Beresford Dillon was attached to RAAF Squadron 463. He was a navigator on an Avro Lancaster111 which was engaged in bombing operations over Calais, France on September 26 September 1944. Local residents stated the air craft was hit by anti-aircraft fire and at approximately 6 pm the aircraft exploded on impact and was expected all crew lost their lives instantaneausly.
In 1947 a Fleet Street journalist was visiting the small seaside village of Wissant and came across the grave of the six Australians killed on 26 September 1944 and found the grave was carefully attended by the the villagers.
Beresford Dillon was single,he was survived by his parents George and Violet, brother Brian and sisters June and Lurline.
