Inside the Book- PREFACE
This ROLL OF HONOUR has been compiled by the Town Council at the frequently expressed wish of the Burgesses, who have naturally desired to have recorded/in some permanent form the names of those Men of our Town who offered their lives in the common cause. It is a record of which the Borough may well be/proud. It contains no less than 2,383 names of men who served in the Forces during the Great War. Of this number no less than 314 have laid down their lives.
