USAAF B17 Flying Fortress 41-2429 of the 93rd Bombardment Squadron, 19th Bombardment Group was shot down over New Britain - the entire crew was posthumously awarded the US Distinguished Service Cross

Flight Sergeant Frederick Wentworth Earp 403325 DSC (USA) RAAF was the co-pilot

The pilot was Captain Harl Pease USAAF O-34206 who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions on that mission - he was executed after becoming a Prisoner of War
