Bill was the sixth of eight children of Thomas Earl Edwards Snr (born 1875 in Wales) and Isabella (Bella) Elizabeth Caldwell (born 1874 at Nerring in Victoria. Tom Snr was a Gold Miner at Eaglehawk in Bendigo, Victoria in 1898 when he married Bella. Tom Snr and Bella were in Western Australia at Daveyhurst near Menzies on the Goldfields from 1902 to 1906 where Tom Snr was a Gold Miner/Prospector. The family settled at Eaglehawk in Bendigo, Victoria and Tom Snr worked as a Miner until his death in 1930.
Bill had worked as a Labourer in Melbourne and Bendigo, and in 1940 was in Maryborough, QLD with brother John Henry when he enlisted in the Army. Bill was a Corporal (Service No:QX10578) attached to 2/1 Air Support Signals when he was killed in a flying accident in February 1943. Brother Thomas Earl (Private; Service No:2401) and Brother in Law Hubert Charles Jason (Private; Service No:4118) served in WWI, and Brothers John Henry (Private; Service No:QX10577) and Sidney Edgar (Corporal; Service No:VX47334) served in WWII
