Son of Edward Charles and Ivy Olive Myrtle Farrington, of East Fremantle, Western Australia.
John Edward Farrington enlisted in September 1940 and in December 1941 proceeded overseas on active service with #2 Squadron as a Wireless Operator.
On 12 January 1942, in a Hudson aircraft A16/12, Sgt Farrington and others set out from Namlea to bomb a target at Kema in the Celebes. The aircraft was attacked by 3 Japanese fighter aircraft near Kema, Netherlands East Indies and failed to return from the operation. This aircraft was seen to catch fire after the attack and spin and crash into the water. None of the crew was observed to parachute out and it is believed all lost their lives.
Other members of the crew were F/O PC Gorrie, Sgt W.L. Morgan and Sgt KRT McCracken.
