Mr and Mrs George Fawcett, of Clunes, have been officially notified that their only son, Flight-Sgt Walter D. Fawcett, was killed in an air-craft accident in Norfolk, England, on August 30. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the AIF, but eight months later transferred to the RAAF. Before enlisting he was on the staff of the Clunes branch of the State Savings Bank. For two successive years he was champion athlete of Clunes HE School, and had numerous successes in road races conducted by Clunes Cycling Club.
