Notes from stretcher bearer diary
This record was typed by me, Robyn Hovell many years ago for Colin John D'Arcy, 2/28th Rats of Tobruk, (and a family friend of my parents.) Colin was asked to submit his story for a book about the West Australians serving, many decades ago. I don't know if his recollections were ever published. I intend to submit all his recall to the Rats of Tobruk association in Western Australia. The following is an extract from Colin's notes in 1941. Submitted by me in April 2026)
"Through very unfortunate luck our attack failed - the details of this will be written elsewhere- and the casualties were very heavy and come daylight we found we had about a dozen wounded and stumbled into Captain Warrng's post where we had to hole up until dusk. One of our casualties was Lieutenant Fidler of the 2/43 Battalion who was shockingly wounded with a mortar bomb, and who died on our way back to the R.A.P."
