HIS DUTY NOBLY DONE. WE WILL REMEMBER HIM
MACKAY BOY WOUNDED.
Friends in Mackay received word on Saturday that Private C. J. Fletcher (A.I.F.) had been wounded in action. Private Fletcher is an ex-service man, having joined the A.I.F. from Mackay in 1916. He "joined up" this war in June, 1940.
Advice was received yesterday that Private Charles Joseph Fletcher, who was seriously wounded towards the end of May, had died or wounds, received, it Is believed, in the fighting In Greece. Deceased was undergoing his second campaign in war, having served in the Great War from 1916 to 1918 when he was invalided back to Australia suffering from the effects of gas.
He was born at Tambo and came to Mackay with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Fletcher when about 16 years of age and had resided here except for the periods during which he was on war service.
Deceased is survived by his widow and four children who reside at Collinsville. There are four step-sisters, Mesdames A. Thomas (Camilla), J. Flori (Bundaberg). R. Salsbury (Shakespeare-street). and A. Chldlow (Farleigh) and four step-brothers, Messrs. Albert, Thomas, and Bert Beasley (Farleigh), and Private Percy Beasley. Mr. C. T. Beasley, deceased's stepfather, resides in Maryborough.
