SERGEANT ALBERT LESLIE GANE,
HERBERTON, July 15.
Mr. F. Gane, of Herberton, received a cable on Sunday, evening intimating that his son Sergeant Albert Leslie Gane, had lost his life as the result of an aircraft accident in Solway Firth, off Drumborg, Cumberland, England, on July 8. 1942.
Sergeant Gane was a teacher in the Cairns High School, and was called up for training in January 1941. He got his wings in Canada, and went to England in January of this year. He was 22 years of age.

Pilot: Sgt. Albert Leslie Gane Aus/405126 RAAF Age 22. Killed
Taking off at 0830 hrs with two others to practice formation flying.
The formation was under the instruction of P/O. Maxwell. At 09:30 hrs in a line eastern formation, two of the Hurricane collided and locked together, crashing at Drumber, Solway Firth. The other pilot, 19 year old Sgt. Te Roki Robieson 1375959 RAFVR flying Hurricane Z7077 was also killed.

Served for 12 months in the 51st Battalion Australian army. Enlisted 02nd February 1941. Son of Francis Herbert and May Gane, of Herberton, Queensland, Australia. Grave inscription: ' Too Dearly Loved To Be Forgotten'.
