GARRETT - In fond and loving memory of our darling brother, TX5854 Pte. W. J.. Garrett, late 2/40 Battalion. A.I.F.. drowned off a Japanese transport off Nagasaki while a P.O.W. on June 24, 1944; aged 34 years.
He followed the path of duty,
He answered his country's call,
He died an Australian hero.
The most glorious death of all.
He gave the greatest gift of all
The gift of his unfinished life.
