James Crompton GIBNEY was born in Cloncurry, Queensland on 3rd December, 1923

His parents were James GIBNEY & Mary MacAULAY who married in Queensland on 31st March, 1920

He enlisted in Brisbane with the RAAF as Air Crew on 23rd May, 1942 and embarked for the UK from Melbourne on 6th March, 1943 - his last rank was Flight Sergeant (Air Gunner)

He was killed in action during air operations over Germany on 6th September 1943 in a Halifax II JD475 Aircraft & serving with the 78 Squadron of the RAF

James was originally buried in the Lindenberg Cemetery and later moved to the Rheinberg War Cemetery

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial and the Tewantin War Memorial in Queensland
