Parents: - Arthur Alexander Gilchrist and Florence Maud Gilchrist, of Chatswood, New South Wales.

Sergeant Gilchrist was in charge of the Anti Aircraft gun that fired the first shot in action on Australian territory Sunday 4th January 1942 against Japanese attack bombers in Battle of Rabaul.
Sergeant Gilchrist was last seen with escaping soldiers and Anti Aircraft squadron at Adler Bay, Saturday 31st January 1942. They had decided to surrender. Captured at Warangoi River.
