Son of John Thomas Gilleland and Margaret Mary Gilleland; husband of Winifred Edith Gilleland, of Hurstville, New South Wales.

Word has been received of the death, from illness, in New Guinea on February 5, of Capt. J. R. (Jim) Gilleland. He was for about five years in charge of the school in Backmede (Casino district) and was a well known athlete. As a representative footballer he was well known throughput the North Coast.
Captain James R. Gilleland, of Moya Crescent, Kingsgrove, died of illness in New Guinea oh February 5. The deceased, who was 29 years of age, leaves his wife — a daughter - of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence, of Neirbo Ave. Hurstville — and an infant son, aged three weeks. The late Captain Gilleland was a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Gilleland, of Oatley, who also have a son, Jack, serving with the A.I.F., and another, Bill, who is with the R.A.A.F.
Brother of Jack, Bill, Connie, Winifred, Dorothy and Pattie.
