Kittyhawk fighter aircraft A29-346 and A29-337 of 76SQN RAAF collided in mid-air and crashed into the sea between Noemfoor Island and Biak Island while on a practice interception with USAAF 13th Squadron P-47 fighters

Pilot Officer Clifford James Williss 437187 (A29-346) and Flying Officer William Glendinning 428386 (A29-337) were killed - their bodies were not recovered and they are commemorated on the Lae Memorial
