The father of this soldier, Charles James Godding, had served with the New South Wales Contingent in the Sudan War during 1881.
James Keith Godding also lost his two elder brothers during WW1, 5342 Pte. Clarence Sydney Godding 19th Battalion AIF, killed in action at Bullecourt 3 May, 1917 and 891 Pte. Fines Henry Godding 53rd Battalion AIF who was killed in action 30 September 1918.
