BUNGENDORE SOLDIER KILLED IN ACTION
Word has been received that LieutJohn Gordon, son of Mr. and Mrs James Gordon, of "Werriwa" Station has been killed in action in the New Guinea fighting. The young man was a popular figure in the district, honoured and respected by all sections of the community. His manly bearing, his genial nature, compelled friendship. Imbued with high ideals, this young man had a bright future in front of him. He, like many others, could have easily sheltered behind his occupation as a grazier, but this worthy descendant of a grand old pioneer stock loved his country far too much to ask others to go away and fight so that it would not fall in to the hands of the Japanese. He saw only his duty, and gave his life for the country he loved so much. Lieut. Gordon enlisted soon after war broke out and saw active service in Syria and Libya. He was 25 years or age and was unmarried. To his sorrowing parents we extend our sincere sympathy.
