Sgt John Graham enlisted on 13 September 1941 and served at various Australian RAAF bases. His last attachment was with 319 Squadron, U.S.A.A.F. as a gunner. On 23 June 1943 Sgt Graham was a member of the crew of Liberator aircraft B24D 41-23688 which was one of sixteen aircraft which was on a bombing mission over Macassar in enemy-occupied territory. On approaching the target, an enemy aircraft flew into B24D 41-23688 causing it to go into a spin from 9000 feet and crash into the sea about five miles from shore and sink in Macassar Bay. No life rafts or personnel were visible in the water after the crash and all on board were classified as killed on 23 June 1943.
