He was born 11th April 1916 at Sydney, New South Wales.
Father Norman Frederic Grant and Mother Maud Florence Grant (nee ___),
of 491 Milton Road, Auchenflower, Queensland, Australia.
Described on enlisting as 24 years 4 months old; single; 5' 8" tall, 128 lbs,
dark hair, blue eyes, dark complexion, Church of England.
27/5/1940 completed medical - fit for service
19/8/1940 enlisted in Brisbane, Queensland
He sailed from Sydney to Canada, where he gained his flying badge on the 19/5/1941.
Elsewhere however it states he embarked on the 16th May 1941 at Halifax for the UK.
While in Canada he was stated to be on attachment to the RCAF.
16/5/1941 passed wings test
17/5/1941 On gaining a commission he was de-mobbed and transferred to the RAF.
During his time in Canada, he flew Tiger Moths, Cessna Cranes and Avro Ansons.
5/6/1941 Embarked Canada
30/6/1941 disembarked into UK
On arriving in the UK, he went first to a holding unit, 3PRC at Bournemouth, and then
on the 5/7/1941 to 56 OTU at Sutton Bridge.
He was then rated as proficient on Blenheims on his RAF file and on the 11/9/1941
he was posted to 21 Squadron at Watton.
