He was 43 and the son of Murdo and Annie Gunn, of Port of Ness, Stornoway, Scotland. Stornoway (Scottish Gaelic: Steòrnabhagh) is the main town of the Western Isles and the capital of Lewis and Harris in Scotland.
He is remembered on the Ness District War Memorial. Ness is the northernmost part of the Isle of Lewis, a community consisting of about 16 villages, including Lionel, Habost, Swainbost, Cross, North and South Dell, Cross Skigersta, Skigersta, Eorodale, Adabroc, Port of Ness, Knockaird, Fivepenny and Eoropie.
