ANGAS MCFEAT HALLIDAY

Angas was the third son of Alexander HALLIDAY & Rose Isabella CULLEN and was born on the 12th of June 1913 in Gawler, SA.

His parents were married on the 6th of December 1905 in Adelaide.

Angas was educated in Gawler.

Angas moved to Burra as a plumber’s assistant to help his brother, Donald.

In 1939 he was living in Bridge Street with Donald and played football for Kooringa

In 1940 he lived at 7 Kingston Street, Burra.

Angas enlisted into the 10th Battalion, 2nd Reinforcements on the 21st of June 1940 in Burra, and allotted the service number SX6304.

He married Betty Lavinia MOORE on the 24th of August 1940 in Adelaide. Betty was the daughter of Edward Anthony MOORE & Elizabeth Jane Cundy UREN and was born on the 19th of June 1921 in Burra, SA.

Angas entrained in Adelaide.

Whilst in training he suffered from Septic Pharyngitis in October 1940 and in January 1941 had an operation on his knee in the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He was transferred to the camp hospital in Wayville after 10 days.

Angas embarked on the H.M.T Convoy US12B from Melbourne for the Middle East, entraining at Dimra Camp, Palestine before marched into the 24th Infantry Training Battalion in Beit Jirja.

Angas was transferred to the 43rd Battalion on the 5th of May 1942.

Angas was killed in action on the 1st of November 1942 in the 2nd battle of El Alamein.

He was reburied in the El Alamein War Cemetery; Row F, Plot 22, Grave 16.

 

Angas is the grandson of Rosezena SMITH (who married William CULLEN) – daughter of George SMITH
