GALLANT SAILOR WAS SOUTH FOOTBALLER
Gordon Hamilton Gave Life to Save Drowning Girl
Gordon Ross Hamilton, the 21 year old sailor who lost his life at Chelsea on Sunday, after having gallantly rescued a girl who had got into difficulties in the choppy seas, was a member of the South Melbouren Second Eighteen Football Club. He was a clever centre player, and for the last two seasons was a reserve senior footballer. He was named amongst the emergencies in a couple of League matches towards the close of last season. As a tribute to his memory, the flag was flown at half-mast over teh S.M.C.C. pavilion on Monday. The funeral on Tuesday was largely attened. Messrs. P. Farnan and F. Ferry represented the S.M.F.C. at the funeral.
SAILOR DROWNED SAVING GIRL
When rescuing a girl who was in difficulties at Chelsea Beach yesterday afternoon, Gordon Ross Hamilton, 21, a member of the R.A.N., was drowned. Hamilton and some companions were walking along the beach when they saw the girl struggling in the water. They went to her assistance, and when she had been helped ashore it was noticed that Hamilton was missing. His body was later found on a sandbank about 300 yards from the shore
