Sergeant Peter Paul Handfield 402181 RAAF and Sergeant Edwin George Holloway 404105 RAAF of 203 Squadron RAF were killed when Maryland AR725 crashed into the Mediterranean Sea near Malta

Also killed were Sergeant James Richard Welsh 920447 RAF and Sergeant Jack Ernest Checkley 644663 RAF
