Rupert Clyde HANNA was born in Waliva, Victoria on 11th July, 1906

His parents were Joseph HANNA & Elizabeth CLYDE who married in Victoria on 21st December, 1892

He enlisted in Wagga Wagga, NSW on 17th July, 1940 and embarked on 29th July, 1941 on the ship Johan Van Olderbarnevelt

He was listed as missing on 27th August, 1942 which was changed to a Prisoner of War on 26th October, 1943 - he was a POW of the Japanese in Burma

Rupert died of illness in Kanburi on 15th February, 1944 and is buried in the Kanchandaburi War Cemetery

His headstone reads "A proud & loving tribute to Rupe - ever remembered by his family"

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial and the Roll of Honour in Hay, NSW
