Flying Officer Harbottle 408012 RAAF was killed when Kittyhawk P-40E A29-13 of Number 75 Squadron RAAF crashed 4 miles west of Marburg, Queensland when the aircraft failed to recover from a dive.
Kittyhawk A29-13 had been involved in an earlier crash at Garbutt Airfield in Townsville on 18 March 1942 and was sent to 75SQN after repairs at 5AD
Flying Officer Harbottle was the son of Major Frank Harbottle DSO and Olive Grant Burn Harbottle of Hobart, Tasmania and stepson of Professor Alan Burn of Hobart
