Details of his death
4th September, 1943 – The 2/4 Independent Company took part in Australia’s first amphibious landing since Gallipoli, when they landed at Lae, Papua New Guinea during the Salamaua-Lae Campaign. The 2/4 came ashore in the second wave of the landing, suffering heavy losses with 34 men being killed or missing. Their landing craft was attacked by Japanese dive & torpedo bombers.
