Private William James Hendry (Service No:QX21618) enlisted in the Australian Army in August 1941. He served with 2nd/9th Infantry Battalion in the Middle East (November 1941 - February 1942) and was in New Guinea in September 1942 when he was KiA.

Born in 1920 in Killarney, QLD William was the youngest of five children of Alexander Hendry (b1886 in Tenterfield, NSW) and Lucy Ann Makings (b1891 in Rosewood on the Darling Downs, QLD). Alexander (a Farmer) and Lucy married in Ipswich QLD in 1909 and settled at Killarney, QLD to raise their family. Alexander was a Farmer and Grazier - he and Lucy lived in Killarney QLD, Woodenbong NSW and Warwick, QLD.

In August 1941 William was a Labourer in Warwick, QLD when he enlisted in the Australian Army. Older brother Alexander Anzac (Service No:QX24730) also served in WWII.
