Drowning Fatality. — When eight men were swept into treacherous water near the mouth of the Greenough River on Thursday afternoon, two of the number disappeared and their bodies were not recovered till the following day. They were members of a large party who were bathing in the sea about 400 yards from the mouth of the river.
A large wave carried the eight men into a violent swirl near the reefs.
The other bathers quickly realised the serious plight of their companions and a human chain was formed in an effort to rescue them. Six of the men were brought to safety, but two had disappeared before help reached them.
An extensive search was immediately instituted and one of the bodies was recovered yesterday morning and the other during the afternoon. The bodies were removed to the morgue at the Victoria District Hospital and the coroner ; (Mr. T. H. Hannah) has ordered that an inquest be held.
