E T. HISKENS
Captain and Mrs E. A. Hiskens, Brecknall Street, have received advice that their eldest son, Flight Sergeant Edwin T. Hiskens, has been posted missing in air operations over Malta on October 16.
Flight Sergeant Hiskens left Rockhampton on November 6, 1940, and, after training in Australia and Canada, reached England in August, 1941. He also served in Iceland for a short period. He was allotted to the Mysore Squadron, RAF, flying Spitfires, and served there for 10 months, during which time he did more than 60 operational sweeps over Occupied France and Belgium, being twice mentioned for gallantly in action. Transferred to a Spitfire Fighter Squadron in Malta, he fought through the convoy blitz of August 11 and had since been engaged on full operational duty. Flight Sergeant Hiskens was a pupil at Allenstown School before going to the Rockhampton Boys' Grammar School, where he passed his Junior and Senior examinations. He was an outstanding athlete, being senior champion for two years. He was also a member of the Yeppoon Lifesaving Club, gaining his bronze medal. Before enlisting he was on the staff of the Union Bank, Rockhampton.
