Biography contributed by David Barlow

Son of James and Catherine Holohan of Kogarah, NSW

Sergeant Joseph Holohan 412532 was a member of Number 44 Radar Direction Finding Wing RAAF based at Adelaide River - part of Number 55 Operational Base Unit (his loss is mentioned in the book “Tocumwal to Tarakan” by Michael V. Nelmes)

USAAF Liberator aircraft 42-40500 "Careless" of the 530th Bombardment Squadron took off from Manbulloo Airfield on its first combat mission over Koepang. After dropping their bombs the aircraft was intercepted by enemy fighters and shot down over the Timor Sea. It was followed down by Lieutenant A.V. Connary in another bomber, but no trace of any survivors could be found. Reported to have exploded on impact with the sea.
