Son of John Joseph and Lilian Margaret Horgan, of Jerilderie, New South Wales, Australia.
HE DID HIS DUTY
GNR. E D. HORGAN DIES WHILE
PRISONER OF WAR
The sad news was received on Thursday last that Gunner Edward Daniel Horgan, second son of Mr and Mrs. J. J. Horgan, of Jerilderie had died of illness while a prisoner of war in Malaya. The late Gnr Horgan enlisted early in the war and was a member of the ill-fated 8th Division that was captured with the fall of Singapore, and he with others had been a prisoner of war in Japanese hands since. From the message received it appears he passed away about June, 1943. He would then be about 25 years of age.
Deceased was a native of Jerilderie, and well-known locally, and popular with all his associates. He was a former members of the local football eighteen. The sad news of his passing in the service of his country cast quite a gloom over the town.
The sympathy of their many friends is extended to Mr. and Mrs Horgan and family in their very sad bereavement.
