Biography

William Archibald Fraser HOUSTON was born on 11th March, 1909 in Marrickville, Sydney , NSW

His parents were William HOUSTON and Elizabeth Agnes SWAN

He married Eva Frances Victoria NEWSON in 1935 in Sydney

On 1st January, 1936 he enlisted with the Australian Army - 

William died on 31st August, 1942 in Fremantle, Western Australia at a training camp of wounds accidentally received while he was instructing another soldier in firearms.  He received a gun-shot wound to the chest from a Thompson sub machine gun when it fired accidentlly.

Both William and the soldier were exonerated of any negligence in the accident at the following enquiry

He is buried in Perth War Cemetery which is part of Karrakatta Cemetery, Perth, Western Australia - he is also commemorated on the Australian War Memorial, The Campsie Roll of Honour (NSW) and the Scottish National War Memorial which honours members of the A.M.F. Units affiliated with Scottish Regiments

His last posting was a Lieutenant with the 30 Australian Infantry Battalion
