MR. "CHARLIE" BARNARD PASSES AWAY AT PERTH.

Undoubtedly one of the best known and most widely respected persons in this district, Mr. Charles Minion Barnard, passed away in Perth early on Monday last. Deceased, who had been in indifferent health for some time past, was on a visit to the metropolis. During that time, he appeared to have brightened up, and was seen about the city in a happy mood until Friday. On that afternoon he collapsed and was taken to a private hospital, he quickly lapsed into nconsciousness and never rallied.

The late Mr. Barnard was the elder son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George W Barnard and was born at Busselton within about three weeks of 72 years ago. He received his education at the local school and at an early age took over the management of the general store established by his father. In that capacity, by reason of his unfailing courtesy, integrity and dependability, he became popular with every section of the community. He was generous, often to his own cost, and one of the few people who manage to go through the world without a detractor.

During the great war of 1914-1919 he volunteered for military services overseas, and was abroad with theA.l.F. for over two years. Sometime later he made an extended trip through Europe and the United Kingdom, visiting, among other things, the scenes of his wartime experiences."Charlie," as he was called by everyone, never sought publicity, nor attempted to enter public life. Instead his energies were always available, and very freely utilised for charitable endeavours, and efforts to advance the interests of the town and district. He took a lively interest in sporting activities, and in his younger days was one of the district’s best tennis players. Deceased was unmarried, and his passing away marks the closing of the careers of the last of the three members of the family, his late father and brother George, all Western Australian born, who were outstanding in many ways.

The funeral took place on Monday afternoon when the remains were laid to rest in the Anglican portion of the Busselton Cemetery.
