"Captain Bruce Inkpen, reported killed in action, was one of the first commissioned officers in Bunbury. He joined the 44th Battalion in 1936 and was soon ranked as Lieutenant. He transferred to the A.I.F. as a captain. Captain Inkpen was educated at Bunbury High School and Guildford Grammar School. He was in the Guildford Grammar crew. He was a member of the Bunbury Rowing club and also played hockey. He was a member of the Bunbury Golf Club. For a number of years he was treasurer of the Bunbury branch of the Boy Scouts' Association. He was also a member of the Bunbury Apex Club." - from the Perth Daily News 19 Jul 1941 (nla.gov.au)
