Driver Ronald George Jacobs (Service No:WX27218) initially enlisted in the ACMF (Service No:W46806) in 1939, and was attached to the Reserve Motor Transport Coy when he transferred to the AIF on 15 July 1942. Driver Jacobs served with 3 Australian Troops Petrol Coy and was attached to 37 Coy AASC on 17 November 1943 when he died in Hollywood Hospital as a result of head injuries received when the motrcycle on which he was a passenger crahed into a wall in Fremantle.
Born in 1921 in Somerset England, Ron was the second of four children of Charles Jacobs (b1893 in Frome, Somerset) and Gladys Mary Price (nee Blake; b1891 in Glamorganshire, Wales). Charles (a Soldier - Regimental No:9181) and Gladys (a Widow with two young sons) married in 1917 in Monmouthshire, Wales. Gladys' first husband had been KiA in France in 1916. Following his Discharge, Charles and Gladys lived in Wales and Somerset where Charles was a Farm Labourer. In 1923 Charles, Gladys and four children immigrated under the Western Australian Group Settlement Scheme (with assisted passge and land to develop a farm), arriving in Albany WA on board the Euripedes. The family settled on land in the Peel Estate, where conditions were harsh and they suffered financial and socila hardships. By 1925 Charles and Gladys had moved to Fremantle, WA where they raised their family and Charles worked as a Miner, General Labourer and Carpenter.
Ron worked as a Labourer and Storehand in Fremantle prior to his enlistment in 1939.
