LOCAL AND GENERAL

ROLL OF HONOUR PTE. V. JURGENS. A.I.F.

Official word has at last been received of the fate of Private Vernon Jurgens, A.I.F. who was with the 8th Division when Singapore fell. The notification states that he died of illness in a prison of war camp in Siam on the 27th November 1943. From a fellow prisoner of war we learn that he had a peaceful end and was given a Christian burial. Vernon was the son of Mrs. Jurgens senior, of Euri Creek, and was, like most of his comrades, a young lad on the threshold of adult life and the supreme sacrifice made by such youth will always be gratefully remembered. We tender our sympathy to his mother, brothers and sisters.
