DFC Citation for Flight Lieutenant Barrington Armitage Knyvett.
‘This officer, has a fine record of achievement. Throughout his tour, his courage, skill and determination in action have been an inspiration to his crew.
He has taken part in many raids of heavily defended areas of the Ruhr, pressing home his attacks with the utmost determination and with complete disregard for any opposition or for his own personal safety.
His unconquerable spirit, coupled with fine leadership, has set a magnificent example.'

Barrington Armitage KNYVETT was born on 30th November, 1915 in Manly, Sydney, NSW
His parents were Edmund Francis KNYVETT & Edith Alice McBEATH who married in Walgett, NSW on 20th July, 1912

Barrington Knyvett received his DFC for operation flying in the RUHR. He received his DFC from the King of England at Buckingham Palace, London, on 8 December 1942.
Barrington Knyvett was killed as a member of the crew of a Lancaster bomber, heavily laden with bombs, in No. 460 Squadron (RAAF), which crashed shortly after taking off from the Binbrook RAF Air Base, UK, on 2 January 1944. Everyone on board were killed.
No.460 Squadron (RAAF) is the most highly decorated Australian Squadron in Bomber Command and the squadron with the highest casualties. Almost 600 Australians from No.460 Squadron, including many who trained at No.5 E.F.T.S. at Narromine during WW2, are listed on the Australian War Memorial (AWM)’s Roll of Honour in Canberra.
