Later he was employed at Upper Yarra man, and white there became a foundation  member of the Yarraman Light Horse Troop. Early in 1940 he enlisted in the AlF., and went overseas at the end of that year. He served in Egypt, Palestine, Cyprus, and Syria, being returned In Australia with his regiment in April. 1942.
